Frequently asked questions

What kind of paper do you print with?

Our ultrasound photo strips are printed on premium high-gloss thermal paper, ideal for durability and resistance to fingerprints and water when compared to other thermal print media. This is the same type of paper typically used for take-home prints from sonogram providers.

Will the photo strip be protected during shipping?

It’s very important to us that your prints arrive without issue. We ship our ultrasound photo strips in cardboard tubing to ensure that they aren’t beat up by rough handling.

Why do you do what you do?

When we went to our first ultrasound appointment for our first child, our medical provider didn’t offer any traditional ultrasound print; we learned that this is an increasingly common cost-cutting measure that hospitals and providers are taking across the country. Preserving that memory on paper and sharing it with our friends and family was important to us; that’s why we started Sonoprints: to help others like us celebrate their pregnancies!

Can I print ultrasound photo strips at corner pharmacy stores?

In our experience, the stores you might visit for quick prints and passport photos don’t have the thermal printers necessary to print this particular type of photo. Ultrasound photo strips require specialized printers and print media that aren’t readily available at your local store. Sonoprints simplifies the process of converting your digital ultrasound images to a hard-copy print.

What size is the ultrasound photo strip?

The photo strip is 110 mm wide and the length is determined by the number of images printed.

How do I care for the ultrasound photo strip?

Thermal paper, by its nature, is subject to degradation over time when exposed to heat. We strongly recommend storing your photo strip in a cool, dry place – like a memory box!

Can I laminate an ultrasound photo strip?

No! Please don’t. Laminators that use heat to bond plastic film will ruin the thermal print of your ultrasound photo strip. If you need to laminate, look for cold, adhesive lamination products as an alternative to heat lamination.
